Reseda students, faculty, staff
and parents, staged an Information Picket bringing to the
public's attention the fact that: long term substitutes were
fired, over 2,400 contract teachers were displaced, the elimination
of 6th period, elimination of elective programs, cuts in nursing,
clerical and custodial staff as well as an increase in class
size to a point where it was impossible to teach.
Last year the Los Angeles City
School District budget was cut 21 million dollars. The year
an additional 70 million was eliminated. Numerous educational
groups urger Governor Brown to call a special session of the
state legislature to release funds and aid our desperate school
system.
Several teachers were interviewed
in a discussion series on channel 11 called "Let's Rap". The
school demonstration was also covered by all major television
stations. The picket was effective, and instrumental in reinstalling
the drama and yearbook programs, as well as returning some
teachers to their classrooms.
